World Cup: Ryerson adds to Dortmund’s injury woes as Haaland sends Norway through

Erling Haaland scored another World Cup brace as Norway followed France in the Round of 32 with a battling win over Senegal. However, the injury to Julian Ryerson will be worrying for both Norway and Borussia Dortmund.

The fullback was forced to an early substitution a couple of days after Nico Schlotterbeck’s injury ended the tournament for Germany’s center-back. Both players have been linked with a move away from Dortmund this summer.

Ryerson’s substitute, Marcus Pedersen, put the hosts ahead with the only goal of the first-half. Torino’s defender needed 33 international games for his first international goal, but it did come in his World Cup debut.

Unlike the comfortable victory over Iraq, the goals came after the break for the former Dortmund striker. Ismaila Sarr scored twice for Senegal, including his injury-time strike that made it nervy for Norway at the end.

The assists for Senegal’s goals were provided by the former Bayern attackers Sadio Mane and Nicolas Jackson. RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa played 70 minutes, while former Hoffenheim defender Leo Østigård came off the bench after bagging a goal in his tournament debut last week.

France and Norway will meet on the final matchday, with the winner set to top Group I. Senegal and Iraq will fight for a potential qualification as one of the best third-placed teams.
