Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has agreed to join Chilean giants Colo-Colo following his World Cup heroics.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper earned a cult following at this summer’s tournament in North America, having helped Cape Verde reach the knockout stages on their World Cup debut.
They drew all three of their group games, versus Spain (0-0), Uruguay (2-2) and Saudi Arabia (0-0) to advance as one of the best third-place finishers.
Their goalless draw with Spain made them the first African nation to ever keep a clean sheet against the eventual champions at the World Cup, with Vozinha making seven saves in that game.
Cape Verde then took on 2022 champions Argentina in the round of 32 and threatened an almighty upset as they lost 3-2 in extra time to Lionel Messi and company.
Vozinha made 18 saves at the 2026 World Cup overall, including eight against Argentina. The only goalkeepers aged 40 or older to register more saves at a single World Cup are Peter Shilton (28 in 1990) and Dino Zoff (27 in 1982).

And, having left Portuguese second-tier side Chaves on a free transfer, Vozinha will now join former Copa Libertadores winners Colo-Colo.
“Vozinha is going to be a Colo-Colo player. In the next few days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the necessary medical examinations, and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Anibal Mosa, president of Colo-Colo’s ownership group, said.
In a post to their social media channels, the club said: “Welcome, we are waiting for you at the Estadio Monumental.”
Colo-Colo, who became South American champions in 1991, have won a record 34 Chilean league titles, with the most recent of those coming in 2024.
