Wolverine Is Officially An Avenger With New Role That Changes The Hero Forever
Beyond the fighting, Wolverine has a lot of qualities that make him a well-balanced, popular character. He’s an amazing teammate, compassionate friend, and is willing to make the tough decisions that many others can’t or won’t. Another trait that gets overlooked is how many times he’s been a big brother or mentor to young mutants.
Kitty Pryde and Jubilee wouldn’t be the heroes they are today without Logan’s help. Sometimes he was there teaching them how to fight or survive in dangerous areas. Other times he was around to listen to them rather than tell them what they should and shouldn’t be doing. There was also the Wolverine and the X-Men series, where Logan helped turn Quentin from a villain into someone who cares about more than himself.
During Chip Zdarsky’s stories, Captain America, Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, and Avengers: Armageddon, a new character named David Colton made an impact. He went from being the new Captain America to being discharged from the military. Thanks to a mysterious box, he now has enough power to take on the Avengers solo. Sadly, having power and responsibly using it are two separate things. This is partly why the U.N. is secretly backing S.H.I.E.L.D. David Colton has made a mess of things, but he’s lucky. Wolverine sees something in the new Miracleman that shows he deserves to be redeemed.
Miracleman Makes A Bad First Impression On Spider-Man

Thanks to Miracleman’s actions during Avengers: Armageddon, most of the world hates or is terrified of superheroes. This infuriates Spider-Man because not only did it make his job harder, but his involvement in destroying the world’s nukes caused the deaths of thousands of people. So, of course, the first time he saw Colton, he was going to attack him. Luckily, Logan was there to calm things down.
The surprising part wasn’t Logan getting involved. It was Spider-Man lashing out while Wolverine was the voice of reason. It showed a level of maturity that only comes with experience with a person. In this case, the time Logan spent with Colton and saving his life in Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon.
Logan flat-out admitted to tracking Colton because he shouldn’t be alone. He understands that David is trying his best to use his powers wisely, but he keeps messing up. Plus, Wolverine saw what happens when someone like Colton is left alone; they become the Sentry.
Wolverine Will Mentor Miracleman In Chip Zdarsky’s Avengers

When the Sentry was an Avenger, he was pretty useless. He either ran away from a fight or was manipulated by someone like Tony Stark or Norman Osborn. He was an unstable man who needed guidance. Instead, he got people who wanted to control him. Wolverine won’t do that to Miracleman. Logan’s been controlled and used as a weapon, and he wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
The Sentry isn’t the first person with immense power Logan’s had to deal with. He’s been around when Jean Grey became the Dark Phoenix, Charles Xavier being a jerk, or when the Phoenix Five were ready to become tyrants. The difference here is that he sees the signs presenting in David and is prepared to prevent tragedy. He also sees the passion that David has to be a good and passionate man. Sadly, passion isn’t always a good thing.
Wolverine’s Role In The Avengers Is Unique & Critical

Colton will continue to make mistakes because that’s what people do. He may look and have the powers of a god, but even the deities in the Marvel Universe mess up. When Colton makes a mistake or needs advice, Logan will be there with a helping hand or a word of advice from his almost two centuries’ worth of experience. Eventually, he’ll become a hero and won’t need the help, but he’ll never forget the lessons Logan bestowed on him.
This isn’t the first time Wolverine has been an Avenger, but this time his role is different. He won’t be the second-in-command to Luke Cage or someone who is called on when Iron Man needs someone specific for a mission. Now, he has the important job of making sure that the world’s most powerful superhero doesn’t become a threat. If he does, it’s easy to guess Wolverine will be there to handle the problem, and permanently if needed.
The human mutant Wolverine (a.k.a. Logan) was born James Howlett, blessed with a superhuman healing factor, senses, and physiology. Subjecting himself to experimentation to augment his skeleton and claws with adamantium, Logan is as deadly as he is reckless, impulsive, and short-tempered. Making him the X-Men’s wildest and deadliest member, and one of Marvel Comics’ biggest stars. He’s played in Fox and Marvel’s movie franchises by Hugh Jackman.
