WNBA Finals: Angel Reese leads Atlanta Dream to Game 2 win

For the first time in her career, Angel Reese won a WNBA Finals game. The former LSU star and the Atlanta Dream knocked off the Golden State Valkyries 79-65 in Game 2 on Monday in San Francisco. It was the first Finals win in Dream franchise history and evened the best-of-seven series at 1-1. The series shifts to Atlanta for Games 3 and 4.

Reese became the youngest player in WNBA history to record at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a postseason game. She led all players with 30 points and 16 rebounds, including 12 on defense, making her the third player in league history to finish with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in a Finals game. The 6-foot-3 forward added three assists, two blocks and a steal.

In a back-and-forth first half, Reese scored 15 points. She gave the Dream the lead by completing a three-point play five minutes into the third quarter when Atlanta started to pull away. Reese knocked down a dagger three-pointer that extended the lead to 19 points with under five minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

The performance came two days after Reese scored 11 points in the first quarter of Game 1 and never made another field goal in a 68-64 loss.

“I let my team down last game,” she said afterward. She picked up her third foul midway through the second quarter on Monday, but Reese managed the rest of the way. Allisha Gray added 18 points, and Jordin Canada posted 13 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Atlanta went 21 of 24 from the free-throw line after halftime, while Golden State finished 4 of 7 and committed 19 turnovers.
