With Knicks winning title, Sixers can negotiate with own free agents

With the New York Knicks winning their first championship since 1973, the Philadelphia 76ers and the rest of the NBA can now move ahead to the offseason and really figure out what the next steps are to reach the mountain top. The Sixers will be looking now to dethrone the Knicks and win their first title since 1983.

With the Knicks winning and the 2025-26 NBA season officially coming to an end, the Sixers can now begin negotiating with their own free agents. While free agency doesn’t officially begin until 6 p.m. EDT on June 30, teams can now begin talking to their own free agents before the period begins.

For new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey and Co., there are four free agents to look at. Those four are:

  • Kelly Oubre Jr.
  • Quentin Grimes
  • Andre Drummond
  • Kyle Lowry

One has to believe Lowry is heading off into retirement after 20 years as he pursues his media career, but Gansey and the rest of the front office will look to handle business with the other three in an effort to build a roster around their core quartet.

The Sixers will also have until June 29 to make a decision on the team options of:

  • Dominick Barlow
  • Trendon Watford
  • Dalen Terry

The Sixers will have the non-taxpayer midlevel exception which will be a useful tool in negotiations in the summer. That will give Gansey and the front office something to work with in the coming offseason as they look to build their own championship roster to dethrone New York.
