Will Middlebrooks played in the major leagues, and on Monday night, he had a headset on to call the Boston Red Sox game on NESN.

But when Caleb Durbin lifted off with the home run that eventually proved to be the game winner to extend Boston’s winning streak to 14 in a row, Middlebrooks was just like every other fan in Fenway Park.

NESN has a cool feature in which it has a camera on its broadcasters to capture how they respond in big moments.

During Durbin’s blast, Middlebrooks did a little bit of everything.

First, he leaned forward.

Then he hopped out of his seat.

Then he put his hands on the back of his head in disbelief.

Middlebrooks went with the double shrug after that, then sat back down with his hands behind his head again.

It was all as if to say — are you serious? Could this team really have done this? Of course they did, right?

At this point, everything the Red Sox are doing feels as if it’s touched by a bit of magic.

They fell behind multiple times on Monday, to an Orioles team that was on a seven-game win streak of its own. 

But somehow, Boston still refused to lose.

In many ways, it’s unbelievable. But in other ways, it’s as if it’s a foregone conclusion.
