Will Josh Simmons play vs. Broncos? Injury update for Chiefs OL

Second-year offensive lineman Josh Simmons was expected to be a key contributor to the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive line this season, but his status for the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos on ‘Monday Night Football’ is officially in question.

Will Simmons be able to suit up for Kansas City’s home opener against Denver on September 14?

Here’s the latest update on Simmons’ status before the Chiefs’ rivalry tilt with the Broncos in Week 1:

According to Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen, Simmons was held out of Kansas City’s first practice session for Week 1 on Thursday, September 10.

Earlier this week, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed Simmons is dealing with a back injury and expressed doubt that the former Ohio State Buckeye will take the field against the Broncos.

Josh Simmons and Chamarri Conner won’t practice for the Chiefs today, per Coach Reid.

While it remains to be seen if Simmons will need to miss Kansas City’s primetime matchup against Denver, it seems likely that the former first-round pick will need to be sidelined for at least one game.

If Simmons is held out in Week 1, the Chiefs have rookie offensive lineman Kahlil Benson listed as the second-string left tackle on their depth chart.
