Luke Littler has been the most dominant PDC darts player in 2026. He’s won six majors, including the World Championship, Premier League, UK Open, World Masters, World Matchplay and World Cup.

He’s by far the world number one, with a historic prize money total of over £3,000,000 at the moment, yet finds himself failing to qualify for one of the key major events on the PDC calendar.

How did Luke Littler fail to qualify for the Players Championship Finals?

Every major event on the calendar has a different qualifying route.

A handful of majors allow the top-16 players on the Main OoM rankings to automatically qualify, while others are more specific to how a player has played on a circuit in the current year.

The Players Championship Finals’ qualification process is one of the majors where its own OoM determines who makes it to Minehead at the end of November.

In this case, the top-64 players on the PC series OoM from 2026 will make it to the Finals, so just because a player is ranked high on the Main OoM doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed a spot in Minehead.

The European Tour operates the same way, where the top 32 players from the ET in the year qualify for the European Championship.

Littler only chose to play in a couple of PC events this year, and after it was announced that he withdrew from the final two PC events, it was confirmed that Littler will miss out on the PC Finals.

This has happened with some big names before, including Michael van Gerwen last year.

Littler enters the final week of PC action about £20,000 short of the top-64. He may have already been content with not going to Minehead, but that gap between the last qualifying spot and him may have even been too big to overcome for a player like Littler.

Various reasons played into Littler not playing in most PC events during 2026, but a lot of it may have to do with the fact that they’re the lowest-paying PDC events, and he has the flexibility to miss them without it costing him, outside of missing the PC Finals.

Littler will only play in the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Championship to finish 2026.
