Is Michael Jordan about to walk out of that tunnel?

That’s the feeling that the familiar chords of the song ‘Sirius’ evoke when they play, even decades after MJ last played in the NBA. These days, the tune is now a part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament has apparently decided that each time teams take the field for a match, ‘Sirius’ should play.

The song, by The Alan Parsons Project and originally from 1982, is a classic for sports fans:

But at the World Cup in 2026 across Canada, Mexico and the United States? Yep, exactly.

Why does Sirius song play before FIFA World Cup matches?

There isn’t a specific explanation for why this is the song, but it is definitely going to be there for every match of the tournament.

The Alan Parsons Project posted on its official Facebook page with excitement:

“Did you spot The Alan Parsons Project’s iconic ‘Sirius’ being used for teams walk out track at the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup? Listen out for it at every game!”

FIFA chooses an anthem for every World Cup, and it chose ‘Sirius’ for this tournament.

Just keep an eye out for MJ.
