England has yet to play a game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but has already been dealt an injury problem.

Tino Livramento is going to be ruled out for the tournament due to an injury, The Telegraph reported on Tuesday.

The report indicates that Livramento suffered a muscle injury during training that will keep him out.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law goes on to report that it’ll be Trevoh Chalobah coming into the side.

That means that Trent Alexander-Arnold remains out of the picture.

Chalobah, the Chelsea man, clearly was close to being chosen for the squad originally, and now he gets his chance.

Given the late replacement spot, he may not play much, but tournament football can have plenty of twists and turns, so it’s a crucial call by Thomas Tuchel.

Why Trevoh Chalobah and not Trent?

Alexander-Arnold missed the squad initially because he didn’t quite align with Tuchel’s general view of the right back position.

Trent also hasn’t been in great form since his move to Real Madrid, which didn’t help.

Tuchel clearly feels that Chalobah is a better fit for his system, which makes sense: He is the manager for whom Chalobah broke through at Chelsea.

At this stage in the process, the familiarity had to be comforting for Tuchel in his selection, given that it’s bad timing on the injury.
