The WTA Tour has enjoyed an incredible year on the court, laden with entertainment and drama.
And, as we approach the last Grand Slam final of the season, we have the perfect conclusion in the offing.
Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, the top four seeds, will compete for the US Open title, which was the outcome of arguably one of the most thrilling quarter-final lineups in major history.
However, despite all the positivity surrounding the women’s game, a daunting update has just emerged which threatens the long-term security of the sport.
In a report published by The Telegraph, they have revealed that the WTA Tour is in serious danger of running out of money next year if the current rate of losses continues.
Figures presented suggest that they are projected to hold just $15m (£11m) in cash by the end of this year.
It seems that, despite the seemingly limitless success on the court and obvious growth of its biggest stars, things off the court are not quite as positive.
Whether that be due to an inability to market these elite athletes or just the lack of revenue they’re bringing in, it could have been assumed that a problem like this was in the offing.
After all, the WTA signed a lucrative but controversial deal with Saudi Arabia just a few years ago, but has since lost that funding following political turmoil in the Middle East.
People will be looking for a solution to this problem desperately. Fortunately, she is arguably already active on the WTA Tour.
It’s already become clear that Alexandra Eala is set to provide a bright future for women’s tennis.
And, already the WTA Tour has started to lean into her growing star power.
An event has been created in Manila, albei only a 125-level tournament, and Eala is due to play an exhibition in the Philippines later this year. They are making strides towards meaningful growth in this area of the world.
However, with this latest update, perhaps they might need to be even more invested in the 21-year-old as a crucial commodity capable of spearheading a new wave of interest, an event and therefore funds, to keep the WTA Tour alive.
