FSU baseball commit Landon Thome has been drafted by the Chicago White Sox with the 34th overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft.
He was FSU’s second-highest-ranked commit in their 2026 recruiting class, only behind pitcher Kaden Waetcher. He was previously committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, but Link Jarrett and Co. flipped him after a coaching change. He is the son of MLB Hall of Famer Jim Thome, who played for the White Sox from 2006-09.
The younger Thome is coming off an excellent senior season at Nazareth Academy and is considered one of the best pure-hitters in high school. He finished the year hitting .533 with eight home runs, nine triples, 63 runs, 35 RBI, 16 doubles, and a 1.676 OPS. He also stole 49 bases in 50 attempts, making three All-American teams.
He is ranked as the No. 34 overall player and No. 7 shortstop in the 2026 MLB Draft by MLB. While he still has to officially sign with the White Sox, it is rare for a player taken this early to not sign with their team.
If he does make it to Tallahassee, Thome will likely be an immediate contributor for FSU, which is looking for more lefty hitters to help balance the lineup. The Seminoles still have a need at second base, which Thome can also play.
