A matchup of reigning state champions gets a national stage Saturday as Texas power DeSoto heads to Florida to open its season against St. Thomas Aquinas. 

The Raiders sit at No. 2 in this week’s MaxPreps national rankings, while the Fighting Eagles are at No. 35.

It’s the second straight year DeSoto has headed out of state for a top-ranked matchup. Last year’s trip to Georgia to face Creekside ended in an ugly 70-28 defeat, but DeSoto closed its season on top nearly four months later with the 6AD2 state title. 

Aquinas also lost its opener last year, to California’s Mater Dei, before running the table on the way to the 5A state championship. This will be a stern test for the Raiders on the heels of their 42-0 win last week against Western, with a game against Miami Columbus looming next week. 

It should be a good one in Fort Lauderdale. Here’s everything you need to know to watch Saturday’s game.
