Where ESPN pins Florida among remaining undefeated teams

The Gators are undefeated, beginning a season 3-0 for the first time since 2019. Florida enters Week 4 with a chance to secure its first top-five win in over a decade.

There are 35 teams that remain unbeaten. ESPN’s Bill Connelly evaluated all remaining undefeated FBS teams after Week 3, sorting through which appear sustainable and which deserve skepticism.

Florida is averaging 54 points per game after steamrolling FAU and Campbell by a combined 94 points. Aaron Philo and the Gators offense surprised many experts by hanging 44 points on Auburn.

In total, Buster Faulkner’s unit has posted 162 points through three outings. Philo has thrown for 721 yards and six touchdowns while Heisman hopeful Jadan Baugh has found the end zone eight times.

Connelly has the Gators’ odds of reaching 12-0 at 2.3%.

“The defense hasn’t proved itself just yet; against an Auburn offense that looked wobbly against Baylor in Week 1, the Gators allowed 39 points and 5.7 yards per play. But the offense remains terrifying: Jadan Baugh rushed for another 162 yards and three scores Saturday, and Florida ranks first nationally in points per possession,” wrote Connelly.

Ole Miss presents a massive opportunity for the Gators to make a statement to the college football world. According to ESPN, UF ranked No. 15 in SP+ and No. 16 in FPI. The outlet’s current SP+ rankings are a useful comparison metric for the field of 35 unblemished records because SP+ is opponent-and-tempo adjusted and designed to measure sustainable performance rather than résumé alone.
