Where did India finish in Hong Kong Sixes 2026?

India finished 11th at the Hong Kong Sixes 2026, and a last-ball finish against Bangladesh in the 11th/12th place Bowl play-off lifted them off the bottom of the final standings.

On a ground where the boundaries are short and the scoring is relentless, both sides produced a six-over slugfest, with a combined 26 sixes hit in the match. India won by five wickets after Bangladesh had set a target of 117 for a win by posting 116 for five.

Bangladesh batted first, and their captain Abu Hider Rony dominated the innings with an unbeaten 62 off 18 balls, which contained three fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 344.44. His innings kept the total moving even though wickets fell at regular intervals.

Habibur Rahman Sohan hit 18 off six balls with a four and two sixes before he was caught by Nitish Rana off Rahul Tripathi, while the wicketkeeper Sabbir Rahman made 13 off four balls, including two sixes, before Rana caught him off Krunal Pandya. Chowdhury Md Rizwan added 12 off five balls with two more sixes, and Ahrar Amin retired out on 2 off three balls.

Krunal Pandya was India’s best bowler by a distance, with three wickets for 25 runs in two overs, even though he conceded one no-ball and two wides. He had been hit for five sixes in an over by Abbas Afridi earlier in the tournament, so the spell was a welcome recovery. Mrittunjoy Chowdhury was caught and bowled by Pandya for a duck, and Rizwan was bowled by him as well.

India began their reply in blazing fashion, with Shashank Singh smashing 50 off only 15 balls, which included one four and seven sixes, before the scorecard listed him as retired hurt. His opening partner Rahul Tripathi struck 32 off 12 balls with three fours and three sixes, and the pair took India to 69 for one in 3.4 overs before Tripathi was bowled by Ahrar Amin.

Bangladesh’s bowlers struggled to find any control. Chowdhury Md Rizwan sent down four wides in his one over, and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury went for 35 runs in two overs, so India stayed on top of the required rate despite the loss of their openers.

The match came down to the sixth over, as India needed 23 to win and Habibur Rahman Sohan, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, was brought on to defend it. Rahul Tewatia and Nitish Rana were at the crease, and between them they made all 23 runs, with the winning two coming off the final ball.
