What does the Raiders' signing Mendoza mean for Ty Simpson?

The Las Vegas Raiders have finally signed No. 1 draft pick Fernando Mendoza.

According to ESPN, Mendoza signed a four-year, $57.27 million fully guaranteed deal with a fifth-year option. The Raiders’ entire 10-player 2026 draft class is now under contract as they report for training camp Thursday.

Mendoza was the first player the Raiders drafted first overall since 2007, when they drafted JaMarcus Russell out of LSU.

Right now, according to the same report, Mendoza has been working with the third-team offense so far this off-season, which could mean something or nothing.

So now that the Raiders have signed Mendoza, what does it mean for the Los Angeles Rams and their No. 1 draft pick, Ty Simpson?

Now that Mendoza has signed, Simpson shouldn’t be that far behind. Simpson was the second quarterback taken off the board in this year’s draft, to the shock of many who thought that he would drop in the first round, as far as some thought to the second round.

But Simpson had already been told by the Rams that if he was still there, they’d draft him, which they did. Simpson, in all likelihood, wanted to see what the Raiders were willing to pay Mendoza before he signed. So, don’t be surprised if the Rams announce in the next day or two that they also signed their No. 1 draft pick to a similar contract.
