Action report from the bookmakers
Vikings at Lions
Thomas Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata in Atlantic City: “We opened Lions -3, at Lions -3 currently. We’re taking some Vikings money at +3.5. Having moved a half point off of 46 for the total. Writing two-way action on the total at that number. Not much of a decision at this moment, but a little more money on Minnesota currently.”
Joey Feazel, head NFL trader at Caesars Sportsbook: “Classic good offense versus good defense and vice-versa on other side. Opened this on Sunday at Lions -3, we’ve gotten enough action to go to -3.5. Been one-way traffic on the Lions and I don’t anticipate that to change. I don’t think the public believes in them with that lack of offense. It should be one of the bigger handle games on Sunday morning. Likely going to need the Vikings and the under.”
Ravens at Bills
Gable: “We opened Bills -3.5, now down to -3 with Lamar Jackson a full participant at practice and looking more likely that he’ll play. Total ticked up a bit from 53.5 to 54. Overall, it’s been a decent amount of Buffalo money – both spread and moneyline – and I feel we’ll probably need the Ravens.”
Feazel: “Jackson looking like he’s going to play this week, but don’t know if he’ll be fully healthy. We’ve seen a little bit of movement, leaning towards that confirmation that he’ll play. Total 52.5 up to 54, driven by sharper action. We opened the spread at Bills -3.5, now down to -3. Little bit of movement. Action-wise seeing one-way traffic on the Bills and I don’t expect that to change given the Ravens’ disappointment so far this season. It’ll be a big need for the under as well on Sunday.”
Chiefs at Broncos
Gable: “We opened Chiefs -2, Broncos did take some money there early. We went to Chiefs -1, now sitting -1.5. Total is sitting 40.5, it was as high as 41.5. Saw some money on the Broncos ML.”
Feazel: “Chiefs coming off a tough Sunday night where betting public was all over them with Patrick Mahomes as an underdog. We’ve seen Broncos action this season no matter who they’re playing, and no different in this one. We opened this Chiefs -1.5, and it’s stayed there. We opened total 41.5, now down to 40.5. I anticipate a little more two-way action on Sunday and probably the public coming in on the over.”
Bears at Seahawks
Gable: “We opened this Bears -3, and still sitting there. We haven’t gone to -3.5 yet, and I’m not sure if we’ll get there. Pretty good two-way action on the 3, a little bit more Seattle ML action presently.”
Feazel: “So far, good two-way action on this one. Slightly more action on the over. We opened at 47, down to 46.5. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this total move up. Any game the Bears have been involved with seems to head that way. I don’t anticipate this getting off the 3. Probably the bigger need is the under and Seahawks.”
Sharp action
It’s always notable where respected bettors have landed on this week’s games. While these prices may not currently be available at all sportsbooks, knowing where sharps have wagered can also be instructive for in-game wagering.
Yahoo Sports conversed with several bookmakers across the country, and here is where some sharp action has been (and the numbers it came in at):
Commanders +5.5
Cowboys -6, -6.5
Jaguars -8, -8.5
Steelers -3, Browns +3.5
Broncos +2
Bengals -10
Big bets
We’ll be keeping track of six-figure (and larger) Week 8 NFL bets from sportsbooks, as well as if they end up cashing.
