‘Weapons’ Stars Officially Reunite in First Look at Chilling New Political Thriller
You can breathe a sigh of relief, because the US midterm elections are over; you don’t have to worry about being assailed with political ads, fundraising calls, or Steve Kornacki‘s video board for another year. However, there’s no relief for the characters of The Exit State, a new political horror thriller that takes place in the not-so-distant future. It’s now available digitally, and Collider is proud to exclusively present a preview clip from the film.
The Exit State takes place in a future United States where an authoritarian government has taken the reins, and any dissidents, journalists, or lovers of freedom are forced to flee the country as refugees. The movie follows a group of such people who take refuge in a purported safe house near the Mexican border. At first, the idyllic retreat seems like a paradise, letting them put thoughts of the collapse of democracy and liberty out of their minds. However, the safe house isn’t safe at all, and soon they’ll be fighting for their very lives. As the forces of tyranny close in, there may be no safe places for anyone…
In the clip, two of the safe house’s residents, Andrew and Claire (Clayton Farris and Callie Schuttera, making this film a mini-reunion for last summer’s horror hit Weapons) are on a nighttime hike. He was a philanthropist who never considered himself particularly political, but found himself on the run when the government seized his assets, and now he’s taken on the role of “agitator,” as he says. While he puts on airs of being a revolutionary, Claire calls him out for his hypocrisy, reminding him that he stayed apolitical until he was personally affected. Intrigued? The Exit State is now available digitally via Chroma.
