The Clásico Tapatío is already in the air at Verde Valle. With just a few days to go before Guadalajara faces its fiercest city rival at Estadio Jalisco, Ángel Sepúlveda spoke to the media about the importance of this matchup, the responsibility that comes with wearing the rojiblanco jersey, and the desire to give the Nación Rojiblanca something to celebrate.
The Rebaño forward highlighted that these types of matches carry special meaning because of everything they represent for Guadalajara, and he assured that the team is ready to approach the challenge with the utmost seriousness, with the goal of earning all 3 points and showing the pride that comes with representing Guadalajara.
On playing in the Clásico Tapatío
We always go into these games eager to play. We know what Estadio Jalisco represents, and we respect our opponent while playing soccer and always trying to deliver the results the club expects. We know how significant this game is, and we are focused on getting the win. It is always a privilege to know that you are at Chivas and that you get to play in these types of matches. You know what they mean.

The Clásico Tapatío moves the city, and there is a lot of pride in being part of these games. The team wants to win and do things the right way. That motivates us because we are already looking forward to the game. We know it will be a tough match, but we want to enjoy it and give our fans a great satisfaction. I don’t like to plan anything. I’m someone who lives in the moment and goes with what I feel. The rivalry is there, and we know Guadalajara is their home too. We stand our ground and want to show who Chivas is in its city and at Estadio Jalisco, but we want to win, and the team is ready for that.

On the Clásico de México in Oakland and his brace
It is always important to score. I always try to give my best and help my team; that is the best way and the formula I have always followed. It is a very important game, and we approached it that way. We want those 3 points and to stay near the top of the table, and what better motivation than facing Atlas. We are taking this game very seriously. Regardless of the fact that it was a friendly, the team performed very well, and those games don’t feel like friendlies at all.

We were coming off 2 matches that had not been our best, and now we have this very important League game coming up, and we are going to go for the win. We have the tools, and any player who cannot be there due to injury or suspension has to be backed by the rest of us.

On Atlas’ defensive work in the AP26
I don’t focus on that. These games are different and have a different feel to them. We are focused on our team’s work and on continuing that way and winning the game. We have no other option and no other mindset. We hope it will be a great game for the fans and that we can enjoy it as well. Sometimes we say that winning games is easy, but it isn’t. It hurts our pride when we lose because we want to be among the top teams in the table and we always want to win, but we are working with the humility and sacrifice that are necessary. We have no other option, and we are going to do everything we can to make that happen.

With the hunger and desire to play this game, it is always different. We are focused on our work, we want to win and show that we are in Guadalajara, that this is our home, and that our fans feel represented on the field. We know how significant it is, and we hope it will be a great game. Everyone always wants to beat us, that’s a reality, and we want to be ourselves and represent Chivas, so that everyone can feel how big this crest is.

On Chivas’ history at Estadio Jalisco
I got to see Bofo’s goal, and if there were a list of historic moments, I would definitely include it because it marked a before and after. He was an incredible player. I think we could include it without a doubt. We know what Jalisco represents throughout the country and beyond. We want to enjoy it. I enjoy every game and try to give my best. These games have that spark, and I want to give everything I have and enjoy it so we can win the match.

On Diego Campillo and Raúl Rangel’s involvement with Selección Mexicana
At the end of the day, these things are part of soccer. We are human beings, and they know, without even having to say it, that they have the support of the entire team, and they know how important they are to us. I think they are players with strong mentalities, and they are not going to let this bring them down. They will continue to show why they were called up to the Selección Mexicana.
