LeBron James continues to make headlines and money because recent reports have shown that his endorsement deal with Polymarket will earn him $15 million a year. That is an astronomical number, but considering he is one of the biggest athletes of all time, it is not surprising.

It is significantly bigger than what he is earning with his new Philadelphia 76ers contract. He signed a two-year contract worth around $7.95 million, which is a veteran minimum deal to possibly win a championship with a stacked roster around him.

Since James is not making the money he usually makes on his latest basketball contract, that likely opened the door for him to get an endorsement deal that would propel his earnings further. While it was an unpopular decision to sign a deal with Polymarket, the numbers might be the reason why he signed it and promoted the product.

It also opened the door for LeBron to make more sensible basketball decisions rather than focusing on the money. He had recruitment pitches from all over the league, so he had to think about the basketball repercussions over the financial ones.

The 76ers just traded for Jaylen Brown, so they had one of the most stacked lineups in the league. James saw that they had an open spot at the power forward position, and it seems that was the reason he joined up with Philly over teams like the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Joining those teams would have made sense from a basketball standpoint as well. However, they are not as seamless as joining this 76ers team with both a stacked starting lineup and a bench that has all the tools to make a difference.

With James joining up with Polymarket, this might open the door for other players to do the same. Polymarket is not the only service out there, so other products or companies might make offers to other players, which can probably affect their decisions when joining certain teams.
