The reaction made sense because Whitmore is not a novelty act. She is a two-way pitcher and outfielder who has represented the USA Baseball Women’s National Team since 2014.

She helped Team USA win gold at the 2015 Pan American Games and has World Cup silver medals on her resume. In 2022, she became the first woman to play in the Atlantic League with the Staten Island FerryHawks. She later pitched for the Oakland Ballers before joining the Bananas in 2025.

Her next step could be even bigger. San Francisco selected Whitmore first overall in the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League draft, making her the face of a new league set to begin in 2026.
