It’s not everyday that you see a defense recover a fumble and hand it right back to the offense.

Well, that is what literally happened during UConn’s game against Miami (Ohio).

UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne was hit from behind while attempting a pass. When the ball hit the ground, there was no whistle and Miami defensive back Amariyun Knighten picked up the ball.

Thinking the pass was ruled incomplete, Knighten handed the ball right to UConn wide receiver Zy’marion Lang. After the play was whistled dead, referees determined that Osborne fumbled the ball and Knighten recovered but gave UConn back the possession when he handed the ball to Lang.

Fortunately for Miami, UConn couldn’t capitalize off of Knighten’s mental error. But it was indeed one of the strangest plays of the day.
