On Thursday night the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked of the preseason, taking on the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium. Rookie quarterback Drew Allar took over the offense in the second half and wasted no time in making a big play when he connected with rookie wide receiver Kaden Wetjen for a 74-yard catch and run that almost went all the way for a touchdown.
Allar capped the drive with his first NFL touchdown when he scored on a short keeper at the goal line to give the Steelers a 14-9 lead over the Packers. Allar came in after Will Howard threw for 86 yards but failed to find the end zone.

The Steelers selected Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. It looks like he and Howard are going to battle it out all preseason long for the team’s backup quarterback job.
