Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr walked into his pregame press conference on Tuesday night holding a cold Bud Light. It was not an ordinary beverage choice before an NBA game, but Kerr had a heartfelt reason. He cracked open the beer as a tribute to legendary Hall of Fame coach Don Nelson ahead of Golden State’s preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center.
Nelson, affectionately known as “Nellie,” famously loved enjoying a cold beer after games and press conferences throughout his storied coaching career. As the Warriors prepared for their home preseason opener, Kerr took a moment to toast the franchise icon who defined the run-and-gun “We Believe” era in Bay Area basketball.

After paying respect to Nelson, Kerr’s squad went out and delivered a performance Nellie himself would have loved. Golden State dominated Los Angeles in a 124-98 blowout victory, showcasing smooth ball movement and lethal perimeter shooting.
Superstar guard Stephen Curry led the charge in limited action, pouring in 16 points while dropping five assists and hitting three 3-pointers in just 14 minutes on the floor. Rookie forward Yaxel Lendeborg anchored the bench unit, tallying a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds, while guard Brandin Podziemski added 16 points of his own. Forward Draymond Green orchestrated the offense efficiently, dishing out eight assists in 15 minutes.
The Warriors shot a scorching 51.2% from the field and 42.9% from behind the arc, knocking down 15 3-pointers on the night. Los Angeles struggled to maintain pace without several regular starters available, despite forward Sandro Mamukelashvili scoring 15 points and guard Jaden Hardy contributing 13 points. Guard Bronny James chipped in four points and five assists for the Lakers.
It was a fitting start to the preseason for Golden State, blending nostalgia with high-powered play on the hardwood.
