WAFCON 2026: ‘Ugly win’ – Cameroon’s Eto reacts to victory over Nigeria

Cameroon midfielder, Naomi Eto, has described her side’s CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, quarter-final 1-0 victory against Nigeria’s Super Falcons as an ‘ugly win’.

Myriam Nyadjou’s first-half stunning free-kick gave the Indomitable Lionesses the win over Justin Madugu’s side on Sunday.

The result ensured Cameroon will face Morocco in the semi-final stage on Wednesday as Nigeria crashed out of the competition.

Cameroon also secured automatic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, taking place in Brazil.

“We can say it was an ugly win because they attacked a lot, but we were very, very strong defensively,” Eto told the BBC.

” always been a dream to play the World Cup. We have been waiting for this moment for the longest , and it has finally arrived.”
