The Minnesota Vikings could be forced to make significant changes to the left side of their offensive line ahead of Sunday’s road matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced Monday that left guard Donovan Jackson is expected to undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus, an injury likely to end his season. Minnesota could also be without starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw, who has entered the NFL’s concussion protocol.

If Darrisaw is unable to play, the Vikings could enter Sunday with new starters at both positions.

Second-year guard Joe Huber is expected to replace Jackson, while Ryan Van Demark would likely step in for Darrisaw.

Jackson’s loss is significant after the former first-round pick established himself as a key piece of Minnesota’s offensive line. The Vikings selected him No. 24 overall, and he immediately earned a starting role.

“Donnie’s gotten off to a great start this year,” O’Connell said. “Unbelievable offseason and ascending player.”

O’Connell called the injury a “temporary setback” and said Jackson will remain an important presence within Minnesota’s offensive line room during his recovery.

Darrisaw  injury adds to Vikings’ growing offensive line concerns

Huber has some starting experience, having filled in for Jackson last season when Jackson underwent wrist surgery. Huber also serves as Minnesota’s backup center, although the Vikings could soon receive additional depth with center Michael Jurgens expected to begin practicing this week after spending time on injured reserve.

Darrisaw’s status could be equally concerning.

The veteran left tackle is one of Minnesota’s most important offensive players, and the Vikings have experienced noticeable declines in offensive production when he has been unavailable.

In 2022, Darrisaw entered concussion protocol in consecutive weeks and ultimately missed three games. He later suffered torn ACL and MCL injuries in his left knee that ended his 2024 season and contributed to him playing only 10 games in 2025.

Minnesota enters Sunday facing the possibility of protecting its quarterback with a dramatically different left side of the offensive line.
