In only his third NBA season, Victor Wembanyama has led the San Antonio Spurs into the NBA Finals. That alone is a special achievement for a 22-year-old star player. However, he has been labelled as a generational talent by a lot of people.

He has a chance to go down as the greatest player of all time. With that kind of expectation, he is under pressure to succeed in this NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. Instead of shying away from it, Wembanyama seems to embrace the pressure he is under.

In the first two games of the 2026 NBA Finals, the Spurs have shown they are capable of beating the Knicks. Unfortunately, they cannot fully close it out, as the Knicks have stepped up in the clutch.

The Spurs also leave a lot to be desired with their early-game performances. Wembanyama himself admits to this, as he has been quite passive during the first half of both Game 1 and Game 2.

Ahead of Game 3, the Spurs are under immense pressure. As their superstar, Wembanyama is in the spotlight with massive expectations to live up to. Despite the sky-high expectations, he is taking it in stride.

“I think the key is acceptance a lot of times, taking a step back, realizing all the journey that’s behind this and what’s ahead of this. Just being okay with who I am, where I am, what I’m doing. I think this is everything that I wished for. There’s really no reason to overthink it. I mean, this is what I’m built for,” Wembanyama said ahead of a pressure-packed Game 3.

That was a profound statement coming from Wembanyama. People expect this from him now, but he will need to back those words up on the court. The fourth quarter of Game 2 was promising, but he still committed some silly mistakes.

If he can show that he is not struggling against inexperience, the Spurs have a chance. It will be difficult against this poised Knicks team, but Wembanyama always pulls off the impossible.
