Vegetable market abduction: Police nab 27-year-old female suspect, three others

Edo State Police Command said five suspects involved in the vegetable market’s kidnapping incident in Benin City have so far been  arrested.

DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem stated this in a  statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.

Ikoedem said during the  operations to rescue the abducted woman by the suspects on June 14, 2026, one of the suspects simply identified as Precious (surname unknown) was neutralized in a gun duel.

She added that the rescue operation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old Marvelous Isaac.

She said Marvelous Isaac was apprehended by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, following a coordinated operation.

The Command’s image maker listed items recovered from Marvelous Isaac to include a  Lexus RX 350 SUV with registration number EKP 848 AE, red in colour, which was confessed to have been used in the kidnapping operation; one pump-action shotgun; two live cartridges; a cash sum of N2,050 million and one motorcycle

Ikoedem also added that in another operation carried out by the  operatives on June 20, 2026 three other suspects were arrested in separate operations conducted within Benin City and parts of Delta State.

She said among the  three suspects arrested was a female, identified as Gift Raphael, 27, who further led the operatives to the apprehension of one Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael.

She said all the suspects have made confessional statements linking them to the vegetable market incident and other criminal operations within the state.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State Monday Agbonika commended  the operatives for their professionalism, courage, promptness and dedication in tracking down the criminal network.

Agbonika assured residents of the State that the police will not stop until all criminal elements are brought to justice.

He, however, urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, while remaining vigilant and security conscious at all times.
