USMNT, Coventry striker Haji Wright out up to 12 weeks with quad injury

United States striker Haji Wright is set to miss up to 12 weeks with a quad injury, Coventry manager Frank Lampard revealed on Wednesday.

“He won’t be available for a little while, he’s got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us,” Lampard said. “It’s certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks.”

Wright, 28, did not take part in Coventry’s final preseason friendlies against Espanyol and Monaco. Last season, he finished third in scoring with 17 goals, the third straight year he reached double digits in the Championship.

The injury is a blow to the Sky Blues, who won the Championship last season to earn automatic promotion. Coventry, a founding member of England‘s top division, were last a part of the Premier League during the 2000-01.

Coventry opens its Premier League schedule on Friday against reigning champions Arsenal.

The time that Wright could miss would rule him out of the upcoming USMNT friendlies which will take place during the first international break at the end of September. The Americans are set to host Peru in Orlando on Sept. 25, Chile in St. Louis on Sept. 29, Mexico in Arizona on Oct. 3, and Canada in Minnesota on Oct. 6.

Wright was a part of the USMNT World Cup teams in 2022 and 2026. He played all four matches in Qatar four years ago and only saw minimal action in two games during this summer’s tournament.

Following the September-October international window, the USMNT will next meet in November for the Concacaf Nations League.
