The Lincoln Riley era at USC has yet to live up to expectations. The Trojans are now 4-0 this year, but USC is also coming off a disappointing effort against Rutgers.

Now, Riley and the Trojans have a chance for a signature win on Saturday when they host Oregon, and the coach understands the importance of the game, per Ryan Kartje of the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s definitely an important game,” Riley said Tuesday. “There’s no question about it.”

A win for USC would put them into the conversation as a contender for a playoff spot. It would be the first time USC has made the playoffs. Still, Lincoln Riley has not done well against Top 25 teams as the coach of USC. He is just 5-14 agaisnt AP Top 25 teams since taking over as the USC coach.

While Riley needs the win, his quarterback, Jayden Maiava, does not share the same sentiment as his coach.

“Eh, not really,” Jayden Maiava said. “We’re just kind of attacking it the same every single week.”

This will be the 65th meeting between Oregon and USC. The Trojans have won 38 of them, while Oregon has 24 wins and there have been two ties. Oregon has dominated the series as of late. They have won four straight over the Trojans, including a 42-27 win for Oregon last year. Oregon has also won six of the last seven games between the two. The last win for USC was in 2016, when they won 45-320 in Los Angeles.

The Top 25 clash between Oregon and USC is set for 7:30 pm ET on Saturday.
