Urbig to replace Neuer in goal against Osnabrück, Kompany confirms

Jonas Urbig will get his first minutes of the season when Bayern Munich travel to face VfL Osnabrück in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany confirmed that the 23-year-old will replace Manuel Neuer in goal in Osnabrück.

Urbig already made 20 appearances last season and is in line to get opportunities throughout the new campaign as well.

“Jonas Urbig will be in goal tomorrow,” Kompany confirmed. 

“Over the course of the season, it will be the same as last term. We’ve already put an incredible amount of trust in Jonas. 

“He’s played in many important matches, such as the cup final. These are milestones that show he can perform in big games.”
