The Students’ Union of University of Uyo has announced the suspension of all sports activities across its campuses for a period of three weeks.
In an official notice issued by the Office of the Director of Sports, the directive affects all campuses—Permsite, Town Campus, and Annex—and takes effect from May 2 to May 23, 2026.
According to the statement signed by the Director of Sports, Comr. Abasifreke Job, the decision was made in solemn respect and mourning of fallen sportsmen from a sister institution. The loss, described as deeply affecting the sports community, has prompted the university to dedicate the period to reflection, respect, and honoring their contributions.
During the suspension, all training sessions, competitions, and related sporting activities are to be put on hold. The Students’ Union noted that further updates regarding the resumption of sports activities will be communicated in due course.
Students and stakeholders have been urged to observe the period with utmost respect and solidarity.
