“Undercover Boss,” meet Sabrina Ionescu.
The former Oregon Ducks star returned to campus in the Prime Video series “Eli Manning Presents: The Undercovers,” which has previously featured some of the biggest stars in sports, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell.
With a prosthetic nose masking her look, Ionescu surprises the Ducks’ women’s basketball team and coach Kelly Graves before eventually toying with fans at a November game against Army. From persuading a father in the Oregon team shop to buy her jersey for his daughter, to getting lost with the fans on the concourse, Ionescu made the rounds at Matthew Knight Arena amongst an unsuspecting crowd.
Ionescu, donning a disguise in Oregon gear and going by the name Jennifer Scone, participated in a halftime free-throw contest. As you might expect, the sharpshooter for the New York Liberty and NCAA all-time leader in triple-doubles did not disappoint.
She sunk enough free throws to raise over $2,000 for the Fast Break Club, an official booster organization that has supported the Oregon women’s basketball program since the 1980’s.
Although Ionescu’s time as a Duck was cut short in 2020 because of COVID-19, she has become a legend in Oregon athletics as one of the greatest players to ever come through Eugene, regardless of the sport. Now chasing a second championship with the Liberty, Ionescu will never go unrecognized in Eugene, and Jennifer Scone likely won’t either.
Ionescu’s episode of “The Undercovers” is now streaming on Prime Video.
