More details inevitably will emerge regarding 49ers owner Jed York’s recent arrest, and lickety-split no-contest plea, in Ohio. None will make things better. If anything, extra facts will make it all look worse.
Case in point: Per the California Post, York pinged a dummy ad for a prostitution service multiple times before arranging a Sunday-morning dalliance. The first attempt happened the prior day. He reportedly used an alias: Joe.
“York messaged the female and advised that his name was Joe and that he would like to visit the female,” detectives wrote in an official document, per the Post. Later on Saturday, York “advised that he was just checking in, and was seeing if the female was available.”
After receiving no reply, York tried again at 9:11 a.m. ET on Sunday morning. Per the official report, York “asked if the female was free, and that he would love to come see her.” He said he was driving from Boardman to East Palestine, and he asked the woman to “shoot him an address.” He then reportedly asked for the charge for one hour.
York was told the price was $160, with a $20 surcharge for unprotected sex. He agreed to pay $160, and he said he was on his way to a fictitious lot number at the trailer park. (The owner of the trailer park has claimed that addresses in the park were not used for the sting operation; this new information obviously contradicts that.)
The arrest happened at the trailer park at 9:35 a.m. ET. York had $160 in cash, and a test text message confirmed that his iPhone was the one used to arrange the encounter. He was driving an AVIS rental car.
York has said nothing since the arrest and plea to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. He received a sentence of two days in jail and a $1,150 fine.
The NFL is reviewing the case under the Personal Conduct Policy. The league’s owners are due to meet in Atlanta on Wednesday.
