UNC running back highlights career day, late struggles in Clemson loss

Whether you’re talking about Omarion Hampton, Ty Chandler or someone else, the UNC football program knows how to produce talented running backs.

In 2025, North Carolina found Demon June as its next breakout star. On Saturday at Clemson, the Tar Heels got a career day from junior back Benjamin Hall (130 rushing yards, one receiving touchdown).

UNC totaled 200+ rushing yards, but failed to give Hall the football during a questionable play-calling sequence late. After North Carolina’s 28-20 loss, Hall detailed his career day, then quickly shifted to how his teammates will recover to next focus on Notre Dame.

“Between Billy and our own line, I think they helped put me in positions to make good plays,” Hall said via Tar Heel Tribune’s R.L. Bynum. “I think we got a lot of guys in the room who can make good plays. I’m just blessed, and God allowed me to make those plays today, so I want to give God the glory.”

“Watch film, view tape, relax, try to stay even keel, not waste too much energy and we just got to go finish that game,” Hall continued. “I’m not mad at what we did. I think we just got to be dialed in when the clock’s running.”

Hall’s latest outing, at least temporarily, cemented him atop the depth chart of a deep RB room. June recorded the Tar Heels‘ lone rushing touchdown, following his career-best 3-score day vs. ETSU, while Jaylen McGill scored UNC’s first touchdown in Week Zero.

Instead of running the football on fourth-and-one late, during its first drive out of a lengthy weather delay, North Carolina tried its luck with a deep bomb to tight end Jelani Thurman. Why not trust Hall during his own career game instead?
