UNC basketball makes cut for five-star center in 2027 class

The North Carolina Tar Heels continue to work on future recruiting targets as Michael Malone and his staff have been active in that area. The 2027 class will be the first one that Malone will get to work on rather than inherit.

So it’s important that the UNC staff land some premier prospects in that class to impact the future of the program.

On Tuesday, the Tar Heels took a step forward with one recruit as five-star center Darius Wabbington cut his list of 22 offers down to a top six. He told Joe Tipton of On3 that he is now down to Arizona, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Louisville and Texas.

The Arizona native plays at Sunnyslope in Phoenix and is a rising prospect in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-11, 245-pound center is ranked No. 13 nationally, the No. 3 center and No. 4 player in the state of Arizona per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

In addition to his top six, he has set visits to Louisville (Sept. 11), Arizona (Sept. 25), and Texas (Oct. 9) per Sam Kayser. No visit to UNC is currently scheduled.
