UCL: ‘It won’t take another 20 years’ – Jack Wilshire, Hargreaves console Arsenal fans after PSG defeat
Former Arsenal player, Jack Wilshere, has stated that it will not require another 20 years for Arsenal to secure the Champions League trophy.
Former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, concurred that the Gunners are a formidable presence, labeling them as the top team in both the Premier League and Europe.
During the penalty shootout on Saturday evening, Gabriel and Eberechi Eze failed to convert their penalties, resulting in Arsenal’s loss in the final held in Budapest.
PSG successfully achieved back-to-back Champions League titles by winning a penalty shootout against the Premier League champions.
Former Chelsea striker, Kai Havertz, gave Arsenal an early lead with a spectacular strike, but Ousmane Dembele equalized with a penalty in the second half.
Neither team managed to score a winner during regular time or the additional 30 minutes, and PSG maintained their composure during the penalty shootout.
Arsenal participated in their first Champions League final in two decades, just a week after clinching their first Premier League title since 2004.
In the aftermath of the defeat, former England midfielder Jack Wilshere remarked on TNT Sports, “It will take some time to recover, but I am confident it will not take another 20 years to reach another final with Mikel at the helm.
“I believed we could win in penalties, but it is a difficult outcome to accept.”
Hargreaves said, “What an incredible journey this team has taken their supporters on. They are the best in the Premier League and among the elite in Europe. Arsenal is here to stay, and they will rise again.”
Meanwhile, PSG has become only the second team, following Real Madrid, to successfully defend the Champions League trophy.
