The Umuahia Capital Development Authority, UCDA, has said it will soon demolish illegal structures built along the Une Ehimiri axis of Ogurube Layout, Umuahia.

The General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority, UCDA, Mr Kingsley Agomoh, disclosed this to journalists in Umuahia, saying the deadline given to owners of the alleged illegal structures had expired.

He explained that the natural waterways in the area have been overrun by structural development, thereby resulting in flooding and drastic ecosystem disruption affecting the area.

According to Mr Agomoh, it has become pertinent to safeguard the natural waterways and ensure a proper drainage system in the axis of the Abia State capital.

The UCDA General Manager disclosed that the offices of the National Population Commission and Federal Pay Office along the Ehimiri axis have already been overrun by flooding because of the illegal structures erected on the waterways.

The UCDA general manager said the planned demolition of illegal structures is in line with the Development Control Regulations 2021.

Mr Agomoh said the waterways, which stretch from Une Isieke through Nkata, behind the Abia State House of Assembly, to the International Conference Centre’s fence and up to Winners’ Church, should not be obstructed by unapproved developments.
