Two-time Georgia defending state champion parts ways with head football coach
Fresh off back-to-back state championships, one Georgia high school football program is making a change at the top.
Hebron Christian Academy has parted ways with head coach Quentin Davie, naming defensive coordinator Daniel Mejia interim head coach for the remainder of the 2026 season, the school announced Thursday, Oct. 15.
In a statement released by the school Thursday, Hebron Christian head of school Dr. James Taylor announced the decision to transition leadership of the football program for the remainder of the season, effective immediately.
The move comes less than a year after the Lions captured their second consecutive Georgia High School Association private school state championship. Hebron Christian defeated Prince Avenue Christian 56-28 to win its first state title in 2024 before beating Calvary Day 28-21 in the 2025 championship game.
“We are immediately launching a comprehensive national search for our next head football coach and will establish a search committee in the coming days to help guide that process,” Taylor said in the statement.
The school said it has “full confidence” in Mejia to lead the program during the transition and emphasized its commitment to supporting student-athletes and their families.
Davie was hired in January to take over the program after Kenny Dallas led the Lions to the 2025 state championship. Dallas had succeeded Jonathan Gess, who departed following the 2024 title-winning season.
Davie brought collegiate and professional playing experience to the position, having played linebacker at Northwestern. He was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Wildcats, recording 240 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 10 sacks during his college career.
Hebron Christian enters the coaching transition amid a challenging start to the 2026 season. The Lions are 2-5 following a 22-19 loss to Duluth on Oct. 9. The school did not provide a reason for Davie’s departure in its announcement.
Hebron Christian, located in Gwinnett County just outside of Atlanta, will continue its season Friday against Lumpkin County.
