Two terrorists neutralised as troops recover HK 21 gun in Niger

Two terrorists were neutralised by troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD during a patrol in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, with an HK 21 machine gun recovered from the operation.

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the encounter occurred around 8:55 am on September 14, 2026, when troops of the Civilian Intervention Battalion (CIB) XVI met the terrorists while moving from Dekara towards the Gidan Zana and Sabon Gida areas.

Makama said the troops engaged the terrorists during the patrol and neutralised two of them.

He added that one HK 21 machine gun and 15 belted rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition were recovered after the encounter.

“The fighting patrol was part of ongoing efforts by troops under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD to dominate the general area, disrupt terrorist activities and prevent armed groups from establishing freedom of movement across communities in the axis,” Makama said.
