Two residents rescued alive from collapsed building in Abuja

Two residents were on Friday rescued from the rubble of a collapsed one-storey building at the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Head of Media and Public Relations at the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Nkechi Isa.

Isa noted that the victims are currently receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

She explained that the victims were initially trapped on the ground floor of the residential property when the right segment of the structure collapsed, adding that the affected building comprises six blocks of flats, and other occupants of the property were out at the time of the incident.

Nkechi noted that the FEMD received a distress call and swiftly mobilised to the scene and successfully extracted the trapped victims.

According to her, while the two residents were pulled out alive without fatalities, the collapse resulted in significant loss of personal belongings and household items, she added.
