Two Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chairmen in Gombe State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors are Alhaji Idris Abubakar Yayayi, former PDP chairman in Kwami Local Government Area, and Alhaji Yusuf Isa Jigawa, who chaired the party in Nafada Local Government Area.
Both men announced their departure from the PDP after separate meetings with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House in Gombe.
The Director-General of Press Affairs in the Governor’s Office, Ismaila Uba Misilli, confirmed the defections in a statement issued on Sunday.
Misilli said the two former party chairmen had submitted resignation letters to their respective ward chairmen before meeting the governor, formally ending their membership of the PDP.
Senator Usman Bayero Nafada, the Coordinating Patron of the Gombe APC Campaign Council, was said to have facilitated the meetings.
The former PDP officials also pledged to move their political structures, grassroots networks and supporters, particularly in Kwami and Nafada local government areas, into the APC.
During their meetings with Yahaya, they commended his leadership and expressed their readiness to contribute to the APC’s activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor welcomed the defectors, saying their arrival would expand the party’s grassroots support in the two local government areas.
He also expressed confidence that their political experience and mobilisation networks would contribute to the party’s activities across the state.
