Two newcomers highlight strong week for Section V soccer in NYS rankings

A little less than two weeks remain in the regular season. After that, sectional results will take precedence over standing in the weekly New York state boys soccer rankings.

Seventeen teams from Section V are included in this week’s list, including Brighton (AA) and Naples (C) which were both excluded a week ago.

Biggest riser: Byron-Bergen/Elba has continued its rise in Class C. The Bees debuted in the state rankings last week at 12th, and have now jumped to sixth thanks to an eight-game undefeated streak which includes a victory over state-ranked Genesee region rival Holley.

Biggest faller: A pair of Monroe County teams, Penfield (AAA) and Spencerport (AA) fell four spots in their classifications. Coincidentally, this happened after the two teams played each other over the weekend in a 3-1 victory for the Rangers.
