‘Twilight’ Meets ‘Goodfellas’ in the Vampire Super-Hit Taking Over HBO Max
As the race for the 2027 Academy Awards continues to gather momentum, much of the talk surrounds a particularly tight Best Actor competition. Andrew Scott, for his stunning turn in the devastating drama Elsinore, and John Malkovich, for his arguably career-best work in Martin McDonagh‘s Wild Horse Nine, are the favorites to leave the ceremony with the Golden Statue, but plenty of other names are also in the running.
This includes Matt Damon, who is sure to be one of many nominations from Christopher Nolan‘s epic adaptation of Homer‘s The Odyssey; Robert Pattinson, who is predicted to pick up a nomination for his lead role in Primetime; Sebastian Stan, who led the way in the Palme d’Or winner, Fjord; and Tom Cruise, who defied the movie’s poor critical reception by earning acclaim for his lead role in Digger. As the battle to become the next Best Actor continues, the winner of the award at this year’s ceremony is back among the streaming elite.
At the time of writing, Sinners is one of the most-watched movies on HBO Max in the U.S., a list topped by a 2027 Oscars contender, The Invite. Sinners won a total of four awards at the 98th ceremony, with Autumn Durald Arkapaw winning Best Cinematography, Coggler winning Best Original Screenplay, and Ludwig Göransson, unsurprisingly, winning Best Original Score. Thanks to a PR nightmare from Timothée Chalamet, Jordan defied the odds and took home Best Actor in a win celebrated and appreciated worldwide. A twisted horror crime thriller combination of Twilight and Goodfellas, Sinners follows Jordan as two twin brothers who move back to their hometwon to open a juke joint, only to receive a not-so-friendly visit from a charismatic vampire.
