Troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion have discovered three decomposing bodies believed to be those of terrorists who were wounded and later died while fleeing a foiled attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the bodies were discovered at about 9.30am on September 3, 2026, during an exploitation operation northeast of Kukawa, along the Jemmù-Alagarno axis.
The discovery followed the foiling of an attempted terrorist attack on troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa LGA on August 28.
According to the sources, the terrorists sustained injuries during the failed assault and subsequently died along their withdrawal route.
“Troops discovered the three decomposing bodies during the exploitation of the area,” one of the sources said.
The source added that the operation was aimed at tracing the terrorists’ withdrawal routes and recovering weapons and equipment abandoned during the failed attack.
“Among the items recovered were a damaged AK-47 rifle, a solar panel, a camouflage shuttle bag, a prayer mat, an empty PKT ammunition link and a raincoat,” the source said.
The three bodies were subsequently buried in situ.
