Transfer deadline day: Two Chelsea, Everton deals that collapsed

Folarin Balogun’s move from Monaco to Everton on transfer deadline day collapsed after the player had a last-minute change of heart, according to Sky Sports.

The USA forward underwent a medical on Tuesday, during which doctors discovered an issue that saw Everton renegotiate the deal.

That required them to submit a deal sheet, giving them an extra two hours, until 1am, to complete the deal.

But Balogun decided to walk away from the transfer.

Monaco had gone into Deadline Day needing to sell either Balogun or midfielder Lamine Camara to raise funds.

Once the deal with Everton was agreed, they subsequently pulled out of negotiations to sell Camara to Chelsea at the 11th hour, much to the frustration of the Blues.

But now, both players are staying at Monaco, while Everton are left short in attack after selling Beto to Fiorentina and failing with a late loan bid to sign Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee.

Chelsea had tried to sign Camara as Enzo Fernandez’s replacement.

“After reaching a full written club-to-club agreement, Monaco have gone back on their word,” Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol reported.

“The player had his medical and was going to travel to London tomorrow. But that deal is now off.

“Having renegotiated the Folarin Balogun deal with Everton, Monaco have now reneged on the agreement they had confirmed.

“Chelsea are really unhappy and felt Monaco had acted in a deeply unprofessional way.”

The deal for Fernandez to join Manchester City for £125 million was separate and has been announced.
