The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels completed a trade in MLB on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Angels’ official X account broke the news that they have acquired catcher Tyler Heineman from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. 

@AngelsPR wrote (on 6/17): “Since the start of 2025, Tyler Heineman ranks tied for third among all MLB catchers with 16 Defensive Runs Saved This season, he has thrown out 12 of 33 would-be basestealers. The 36.4% caught stealing rate leads A.L. catchers (min. 15 SBA).”

The news is still making its way across the MLB landscape, so expect a lot of reactions from both sides. For the Blue Jays, it has been rumored that they were willing to part ways with Tyler Heineman, and the rumor has come to fruition. 

Blue Jays trade Tyler Heineman to Angels 

Tyler Heineman has played in parts of seven seasons in MLB. He made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2019, and then joined the Toronto Blue Jays for the first time in 2022. He jumped between the Blue Jays and Pirates for a couple of seasons, and even had a brief stint with the Boston Red Sox in 2024 before joining Toronto again. 

Over 281 career at-bats with the Blue Jays, Heineman batted .242 with four home runs and 12 doubles. His OPS+ was 83 while with Toronto. 

In 2026, Heineman is batting .154 with one home run and one double in 78 at-bats. It will be interesting to see what role Tyler Heineman has with his new MLB team.
