One of Texas’ top-ranked high school football programs has just seen its undefeated record wiped out.
The Lewisville Fighting Farmers, the No. 13-ranked team in the state by Rivals, started their season with three consecutive wins against non-district opponents. However, according to Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the District 5-6A Executive Committee (DEC) ruled on Friday that Lewisville used an ineligible player and must forfeit its victories.
Why Lewisville must forfeit its first three wins
Laykon Brassfield, a standout junior quarterback for the Fighting Farmers, transferred from Edmond North in Oklahoma to the North Texas school after his sophomore year. According to Stepp, the DEC’s investigation found that Brassfield did not actually reside in Lewisville, which makes him ineligible for varsity competition for one calendar year from the date he enrolled in the high school.
“The 5-6A DEC ruled that he did not meet the UIL [University Interscholastic League] criteria for a bona fide residence in Lewisville ISD or at Lewisville HS,” said Greg Riddle of the Dallas Morning News after the ruling.

Lewisville is expected to appeal the DEC’s 7-0 ruling in favor of forfeiting the games to the UIL State Executive Committee, hoping to secure a waiver for Brassfield’s family and relocation. According to Riddle, the DEC also decided 5-2 that Brassfield did not move for athletic purposes.
What the forfeits mean for Lewisville’s playoff chances
The Fighting Farmers had big wins over three respected programs in Dallas Highland Park, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Denton Ryan. Brassfield, a rising top recruit in the state, tallied 734 passing yards and 14 passing touchdowns along with 133 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

It’s unclear whether Brassfield will be able to play Friday, but senior quarterback Aiden Enriquez is currently tabbed as next up on the Fighting Farmers depth chart.
Because all three forfeited games were against non-district opponents, the ruling does not directly damage Lewisville’s District 5-6A record or its route to the playoffs. But Brassfield’s immediate ineligibility could have a far greater effect as Lewisville begins district play Friday against rival Marcus in a Battle of the Axe rivalry game.
