Tony Stewart's race recap in the 2026 Chase race at Talladega

Tony Stewart’s return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ended prematurely Friday when the NASCAR Hall of Famer was collected in a major accident during the Love’s RV Stop 225 at Talladega Superspeedway. Stewart qualified 29th in his No. 25 Ram but completed just 16 laps before his afternoon ended.

The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion was making his second Truck Series appearance of the 2026 season, continuing his involvement with Kaulig Racing and Ram. Stewart entered the event hoping to gain additional experience with the developing program and compete against the series’ full-time drivers.

However, his opportunity disappeared during the opening stage when Stewart Friesen’s Toyota became unstable in Turns 1 and 2. The resulting chain-reaction accident collected eight trucks, including Stewart, who was unable to avoid the spinning competitors ahead. His Ram sustained significant damage, forcing him to retire from the race.

Stewart ultimately finished 34th, earning three points from the event. Although the performance fell far short of his expectations, Stewart expressed continued enthusiasm for competing with the Kaulig Racing organization and supporting Ram’s return to NASCAR competition.

His Talladega appearance marked another chapter in his extensive racing career.
