Tommy Edman Adjusting Well Since ReturnLos Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman is off to a hot start to the season since returning from injury on Wednesday.

Edman began the season on the injured list while he recovered from offseason surgery on his ankle. He had a lengthy recovery period, spending nearly six months on the sidelines, but is feeling like himself once again.

“I feel good now,” Edman said. “I feel ready, feel like I’m in pretty good midseason form.”

Edman’s comfortability is showing in his performances since returning, as he has been one of the Dodgers’ more productive players since his return. Through his four games, he’s 5-for-13 (.385) with a double and a walk. His OPS during this stretch is .890.

Manager Dave Roberts had nothing but good things to say about Edman since his return.

“He’s a dependable player, takes good at-bats and made a really good play (Saturday) in the first inning at third base,” Roberts said. “Can play him out there in left field, second base, and then just (hitting) left-right. He’s been good.”

After struggling with his ankle last season, Edman only played second base for the Dodgers. Now that he is healed, the Dodgers have the freedom to have him play elsewhere in the field.

Edman moved to Los Angeles at the 2024 trade deadline, joining the Dodgers in the three-team deal which also brought Michael Kopech over.

He played 37 games for the Dodgers that regular season, posting a .711 OPS with six homers and 20 RBIs. He showed his real value in the playoffs that season, earning himself NLCS MVP after batting .407 with a homer and 11 RBIs through six games against the New York Mets.

Through his 138 regular season games with the Dodgers, Edman has hit 19 homers and posted a .677 OPS.

The Dodgers still have Edman signed through the 2029 season, with an option to pick him up for 2030 as well. They’re clearly expanding his role in the team, having him pick up shifts in left field and at third base, and they’ll hope he can continue to fill the Swiss Army knife role he has so far in the 2026 season.
